Angelic Upstart – Reason why LP

RIP MENSI.

———-

Angelic Upstarts, from South Shields, are one of the essential names in late-70s and early-80s British punk and Oi!. Fronted by Mensi, they combined punk, social and political criticism with a strong working-class consciousness.

Reason Why? (Anagram Records, 1983) was their fifth album and one of their most important releases. It shows a more mature and melodic band without losing their punk energy, featuring classics such as “Woman in Disguise,” “Reason Why” and, above all, “Solidarity,” dedicated to the Polish trade union Solidarność. An essential record of 1980s British punk. Daily Records reissued in 2023.

RIP MENSI
